Researchers have found that six essential oils -- from thyme, clove, rose, eucalyptus, fennel and bergamot -- can suppress the inflammatory COX-2 enzyme, in a manner similar to resveratrol, the chemical linked with the health benefits of red wine. They also identified that the chemical carvacrol was primarily responsible for this suppressive activity.

Resveratrol - To 'wine' or not to 'wine' :)

Hi folks,

If you've done much research on natural ways to address your cancer, resveratrol has most likely popped up on your radar.

Here's a good article that discusses the effects of both the resveratrol and alcohol in wine, and which grapes provide the highest levels of resveratrol.

Except:

          The concentration of resveratrol in any given red wine depends on the region it comes
          from. Dark red and purple grapes have a higher concentration of the polyphenol. The
          concentration in wine varies, however, mostly with the wine-making process used, 
          rather than the type of grape that goes into the wine, however.

Another "Natural" success story

I'm not the only one using natural methods to address my prostate cancer.  Posted with permission, here's Barry's story.

My story…diagnosed with Gleason 3+3 five years ago, only one core positive.  Biopsy the following year also 3+3 in one core.  Waited two more years and had a prostate MRI that came back negative (MRI screens out tumors under Gleason 7).  Last month, had my third biopsy and it came back cancer free, could not even find Gleason 6 disease.

Upon diagnosis five years ago, went vegetarian, tried to eliminate all processed foods, daily supplements include turmeric, saw palmetto, and vitamin D.  Plus take a “superfoods” supplement twice a day.  Regular exercise regimen…I bike, hike, backpack, Stairmaster at home, light weights.  Only drink water with lemon, some kombucha, and an occasional glass of pinot noir (highest concentration of resveratrol, cancer fighter).

My PSA ranges from 4.0-7.0 due to BPH and an enlarged prostate (44 grams).  PSA is only a relative test and as long as it stays below 10, my doc is OK with it.

But happy I chose active surveillance over surgery and will continue doing what I am doing, seems to be working for me.  I am much more likely to die on one of my backpacking trips than from prostate cancer!

I've been slacking lately :( - Updated for 2021!

Hi everyone,

Well, along with not updating the blog very often, I've also slacked off a little with regard to my health, although I did run the 5K Smile Run last Saturday.  38 minutes isn't too bad considering I probably haven't run in a year, but I wasn't exactly cruising along, as you can see below.





Over the past year my PSA has slowly climbed, first hitting 3.76 in April 2019, and then in Sept, 2019 coming in at 4.12.  Also, my MRI guided biopsy from Dec, 2018 had some new data, with a Gleason Rating of 3+4.

I've just scheduled my annual MRI with Dr Busch (now in Alpharetta!!! YAY) so we'll have a better picture of the situation in December.  Dr Busch's new clinic, the Busch Center, brings a Siemens Magnetom Skyra 3T MRI to the Atlanta area and allows Dr Busch to zero in on the tumors, so his 'sticks' always get results. :) 

I also have my next PSA test scheduled for December to see if I've "turned this ship" at all by then. :)

So, time to get back to taking care of myself better.  More exercise, a good detox, and and an increased essential oils regimen are now on my to-do list.  I will be resuming my daily intake of Frankincense, Myrrh, Grapefruit and Wild Orange Essential Oils.

Well, as I stated in my comment below, I ran the Smile Run again this year.  This time my finishing time was down to 35:12 and I wasn't nearly as worn out as in the previous year.  Here is this year's picture:
